Lucknow’s Divyansh bags a golden double in state table tennis

LUCKNOW : Lucknow’s Divyansh Srivastava won a golden double at the 33rd Junior State Table Tennis Championsh­ip UP Cup in Ghaziabad on Sunday.

Divyansh first defeated Parth Mishra of Ghaziabad 11-8, 11-7, 11-3, 7-11, 15-13 to win the junior boys title, and then outclassed Shivam Chandra also from Ghaziabad 11-7, 11-4, 12-10 to bag the sub-junior boys title.

Divyansh has been a trainee of Yogendra Agarwal at the Northern Railway Table Tennis Academy here.

Suhani Narginari of Moradabad bagged the junior girls title, brushing aside Allahabad’s Ambika Gupta 11-3, 11-6, 11-8, 11-7. But there was some consolatio­n for Ambika, who knocked out Suhani Sinha of Agra 5-11, 10-12, 11-5, 13-11, 11-6 and claimed sub-junior girls title.

Ghaziabad’s Aranis Bana beat citymate Manan Miglani 11-5, 11-6, 9-11, 11-4 in cadet boys final, whereas Ghaziabad’s Anika Gupta beat Manya Ahuja of Moradabad 11-7, 8-11, 11-5, 6-11, 12-10 in the cadet girls final.

Pawan Batham with 5.5 points won the Open Chess Tournament here on Sunday, pushing Vijay Ravi (5 pts) to the second spot, Shivam Pandey and Skand Tripathi finished third and fourth, respective­ly. In under-12, Akshat Chourrasia and in under-16 Tanish Gupta stood top.

Opener Himanshu Mishra struck a superb ton as Kalpana Cricket Foundation scored 124run win against Gujaral Cricket Academy and stormed into the quarterfin­als of the CAL Under-14 Cricket Tournament here on Sunday.

JCA TRIUMPH

Kartik Kapoor struck an unbeaten half-century as Jaipuria Cricket Academy scored a convincing seven-wicket win against Sahara Estates Cricket Academy in a league match of the Summer Cup Under-12 Cricket Tournament, at the NER Stadium here on Sunday.

Kartik scored 56-ball 57, which contained one boundary as JCA romped home in 16.5 overs while chasing 106 in 35 overs. Earlier, Yuvraj Singh made 42 in 68 balls with the help of three fours as Sahara Estates Cricket Academy made 105 for seven in 35 overs.
