CELL PHONE THIEF FROM J’KHAND HELD, 43 PHONES RECOVERED

THE THIEF, RAHUL, OFTEN USED TO COME TO LUCKNOW FROM JHARKHAND JUST TO STEAL CELL PHONES

LUCKNOW: Police arrested a mobile thief from Bakshi Ka Talab area in the wee hours of Monday and recovered 43 cell phones of various brands worth around ₹6.30 lakh.

The arrested person was identified as Rahul Kumar (in his 20s), a native of Sahibganj district in Jharkhand. He often used to come to Lucknow from Jharkhand just to steal cell phones.

According to cops, the Bakshi Ka Talab police was on a night patrol late on Sunday night. During the patrolling at the Bhaisamau crossing at around 4 am, cops spotted Rahul Kumar in one of the public transport vehicles.

As Rahul looked suspicious, police checked his bag and were startled to find that he was carrying 43 mobile phones of various brands worth around ₹6.30 lakh.

During interrogat­ion, Rahul revealed that he belonged to Jharkhand and was a habitual mobile phone thief.

“Rahul Kumar used to steal cell phones from people in crowded market places. He used to come down to Lucknow from this native place in Jharkhand just for stealing cell phones,” said Tej Prakash Singh, station officer, Bakshi Ka Talab.

“After collecting large number of cell phones, Rahul used to return to his native place in Jharkhand where he used to sell them to locals,” added Singh.

On Monday also, Rahul was on his way to Charbagh Railway Station to catch a train for Sahibganj in Jharkhand.
