AGRA: A pack of wild dogs allegedly killed about two dozen sheep and left eight others injured in Tehra village under Vrindavan police station in Mathura on Sunday night, police said.

In-charge of Vrindavan Kotwali police station Subodh Kumar Singh said the city magistrate had been informed about the incident for further action.

“The wild dogs are believed to have entered the village from the nearby deep forest area. Though villagers have claimed that about two dozen sheep have been killed, according to our estimate the figure is around a dozen,” Singh added.

Police said the owner of the flock of sheep, Ram Chandra, was away to attend a function when the incident took place.

Ram Chandra said when he returned home from a function on Sunday night, he found blood all over in the enclosure.

“I found wild dogs attacking and biting my sheep,” Ram Chandra told the police.

He raised an alarm following which villagers rushed to the spot and chased away the dogs.

The villagers informed village head Mahaveer Singh about the incident as it was not for first time that such an attack had taken place. Villagers claimed that at least two dozen sheep had been killed by the dogs and said some of them might have been dragged into the forest.

Recently, feral dogs which once used to feed on animal remains thrown away by slaughterhouses created panic in Khairabad area of Sitapur district when they allegedly attacked and killed a number of children in separate incidents.

Reports claimed that over 100 dogs in the area had turned rogue and were repeatedly attacking children after the closure of slaughterhouses in the area.
