UP BJP chief likens SBSP MLA to thief
VARANASI: Without taking his name, UP BJP president Mahendra Nath Pandey on Tuesday called the Suheldev Bharatiya Samaj Party MLA from Ajgara a thief during the foundation laying ceremony of a commerce and science faculty building at the Government Degree College at Palahipatti in Cholapur area of Varanasi.
The area is represented by SBSP MLA Kailash Sonkar.
Dr Pandey, along with deputy CM Dinesh Sharma, laid the foundation of the building. But the name of Ajagara MLA Kailash Sonkar was not mentioned on the foundation stone.
Before anyone could ask, Dr Pandey laughed and said, “Yahan ke vidhayak ka naam yahan (pathar) par nahi likha hai kyunki wah chor likal gaya hai. Maine soncha pahele hi bata du nahi to log sawal puchenge. (See, the name of (local) MLA has not been mentioned on the foundation stone as he has turned out to be a thief. I thought, I should speak about it in advance, otherwise people would ask why the name of MLA is not there).”
Others present on the occasion laughed. Deputy chief minister Dinesh Sharma remained calm.
A few locals have levelled corruption allegations against Sonkar who has denied charges.
SBSP chief and cabinet minister Omprakash Rajbhar said that he would watch video and thereafter he would lodge a complaint with senior BJP leaders about the matter, if required.
