LUCKNOW : Rotomac promoter Vikram Kothari, who is being probed by CBI and Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with an alleged over Rs 3,000crore bank loan fraud, is under treatment at KGMU here for the past three months.

“Vikram Kothari is admitted for multiple health problems,” said Dr Sudhir Singh, spokesperson KGMU.

Admitted to the neuro-surgery department of King George’s Medical University (KGMU) since March 22, Kothari, according to his medical reports, is unable to take care of himself. He and his son were arrested on February 22.

Taking note of the long treatment duration, senior jail superintendent, Lucknow district jail, PN Pandey has written to KGMU authorities to ascertain the necessity of further stay of the Rotomac promoter in the hospital.

“Kothari is admitted since March. We requested the KGMU authorities to evaluate his condition and treatment,” said Pandey.

‘Kothari requires a surgery that is getting postponed due to his medical condition,” said a KGMU doctor, who did not wish to be named. Kothari family members, despite repeated attempts, could not be contacted for their version.

After receiving Pandey’s letter, KGMU formed a medical board of nine doctors, with Prof SN Sankhwar, chief medical superintendent of KGMU, as its chairperson, to look into the issue.

The board studied the medical details and then observed that there has been not much improvement in Kothari’s condition. He is not in a condition to be discharged, the board said.

The board that was constituted on June 14, has recommended that Kothari be shifted to a higher medical centre, such as the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, for treatment.
