LUCKNOW: Now, Lucknow University (LU) will be preparing the Uttar Pradesh State Development Report (SDR) in association with UP government.

LU’s department of economics and Institute of Developmental Studies had been given the responsibility of preparing the SDR, said SP Singh, vice-chancellor, LU, here on Tuesday.

He added, “In this regard, chief secretary Rajive Kumar has already notified a steering committee under the chairmanship of KV Raju, advisor to chief minister Yogi Adityanath.” Singh is member of the committee and Prof Arvind Mohan, head, Department of Economics, is the convener of the committee.

“There are 22 nationally and internationally renowned experts who will be working on this report with the department. They will be assisted by 20 interns, postgraduate students of the economics department, who will play an important role in shaping the SDR,” said Mohan.

This will only be the second development report of Uttar Pradesh. First such report was made in 2008 on the initiative of Montek Singh Ahluwalia, then vicechairman, Planning Commission, Government of India. At that time, Ernest and Young was hired to create the report. “This is the first time that a university will create such a report,” claimed Mohan.

Many of the international and national organizations like World Bank and NABARD have agreed to partner in this effort as academic partners.

The report focuses on sustainable development goals that were major priority of India and Uttar Pradesh, said Mohan.

The SDR will cover almost all the dimensions of the state economy like health, education, state finances, irrigation, hunger, energy, roads, governance, tourism, urban development, innovation, etc.

Some of the eminent persons who will be working on the project include: Ravindra Singh, former secretary, Government of India will write on governance; Alok Ranjan, former UP chief secretary on urban development and smart city; Prof Ravi Srivastava of JNU on poverty.

Besides, Arvind Mohan will write a chapter on health and state finances and JabirAli, former professor at IIM Lucknow will write on irrigation and water transport, besides many others.
