SCOPE TO CREATE JOBS: ADB
LUCKNOW: Asian Development Bank says there is an opportunity to improve the performance of manufacturing sector in UP.
ADB has made the observation in a report submitted to the state government on the Infrastructure Plan for Supporting Inclusive Growth in UP.
Briefing media persons, additional chief secretary (planning) Sanjiv Saran said about 27 percent electronic products were being manufactured in the state and by developing end to end ecosystem it could be taken to 41 percent.
Saran said the ADB had identified 19 districts for creation of jobs in 11 sectors in six zones of the state. He said these six zones include west up, south west UP, central UP, north UP, east UP and Bundelkhand region.
He said the ADB had stressed upon the need of improving transport connectivity, setting up of industry and skill development in the identified zones.
The ADB had identified infrastructure development plan for ₹150000 crore, he said. Saran said UP was country’s top milk producing state. Out of total milk produced here, only 30% was being collected, he said.
“UP’s GSDP is at USD 225 billion. If UP achieves India’s average per capita income, there will be an opportunity to add USD 200 billion to India’s economy. There is an opportunity to improve manufacturing sector’s performance,” he said.
