UP police to hold summer camps for children in 12 districts

LUCKNOW: UP police officers and personnel will hold special sessions for children on child safety , drug addiction, cyber security and fire safety and disaster management during the first ever statewide three-day UP police summer camp to be organised from June 24.

“These summer camps for children between 8 and 14 years of age will be held at reserve police lines of 12 different districts across the state in associatio­n with UNICEF from June 24 to 26. The attraction­s for children will be horse riding, police photograph­y, police stations visits, video film screen on police and learning the operation of UP police emergency response vehicles (UP 100 Police Response Vehicles),” said OP Singh, UP director general of police (DGP).

He said the volunteers of UNICEF and principals and teachers of police modern schools would address sessions on different issues while police officers would hold events related to traffic rules, dos and don’ts while travelling alone, police dog squad demonstrat­ion, drone

use, self defence and other sessions related to police working. Other interestin­g sessions would be about storytelli­ng and yoga, he added.

Appreciati­ng the UP police initiative to reach out children, child protection specialist with UNICEF Aftab Mohammad said they would hold sessions to make kids understand about prevailing sexual and drug abuse in society. They would be told about online abuse and protection from it, as these days children had easy access to mobile and internet.

The children may visit UP police website www.uppolice.gov.in or write at uppolice.events@gmail.com to get registered for summer camps. the DGP He said the children could also tweet the state police at its twitter handle @Uppolice.

The DGP said the state wide summer camps were planned for children, taking a cue from Varanasi police who had organised a 10-day summer camp for children in May earlier this year. He said circle officer in charges of reserve police lines had been made nodal officers for the events. The districts where these camps will be organised are Lucknow, Allahabad, Gorakhpur, Kanpur Nagar, Jhansi, Meerut, Ghaziabad, Noida, Agra, Aligarh, Moradabad and Bareilly. The summer camps will be inaugurate­d by the DGP at Lucknow reserve police lines on June 24 and commence at Ghaziabad police lines on June 26.
