Municipal commissioner orders probe into nullah cave-in
LUCKNOW: Municipal commissioner Indramani Tripathi ordered an inquiry into the cave-in of a nullah near Kaleva crossing on Thursday night. The nullah near Indira Nagar had collapsed after rain.
It was originally constructed by the PWD, but the LMC reconstructed the nullah without informing higher officials. Built at a cost of Rs 50 lakh, it disposes filth of Luv-Kush Nagar to Kaleva crossing.
Ideally, the LMC has to take permission of divisional commissioner to start work on another department’s structure, but in this case no permission was taken because funds of Rs 50 lakh were released and officials had to spend it for development work. The nullah was apparently constructed in a hurry.
On Thursday evening, the nullah collapsed following heavy rain.
However, no one was injured, said corporator of the area Dilip Srivastava.
“The PWD had raised objections over the demolition and reconstruction of its nullah by the LMC. According to them, it was not required,” he said.
He added, “Now, residents of D block Indira Nagar would be facing water-logging during rain.”
Municipal commissioner Indramani Tripathi said, “I visited the area and found that the nullah was constructed with poor quality material. I have ordered an inquiry, which would be led by additional municipal commissioner and chief engineer. The report would be tabled in five days.”
