ODOP summit in third week of July

LUCKNOW The state government will organise a state-level ‘One District One Product’ (ODOP) summit in the third week of July in which industrial­ists and experts associated with the smallscale industry will be invited for proper branding of the scheme.

Small, micro and medium industries minister in the state government, Satyadev Pachauri on Friday informed that the summit would be organised in July third week.

However, a formal date for the event was yet to be announced.

Presiding over a meeting, Pachauri stated that the ODOP scheme was the most prestigiou­s project of the state government.

“Chief minister Yogi Adityanath will preside over an important meeting related with the One District One Product scheme on July 10,” said Pachauri.

The state government also nominated 10 districts as clusters for the scheme. These were – Ambedkar Nagar, Etawah, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Hapur, Barabanki, Agra, Kanpur district, Kanpur Dehat, Hamirpur and Fatehpur. The ODOP scheme would also play a major role in promoting micro, small and medium enterprise­s.

The government had identified 75 indigenous products in as many districts of UP. The respective districts are famous for these products. Through this summit, the state government will promote 75 products at the national and internatio­nal level and give a fillip to micro, small and medium enterprise­s (MSME) sector.

The government aims to generate job opportunit­ies at the village level.

The MSME sector was the backbone of the state’s industrial landscape. It contribute­s 60% to the UP’s industrial output and employs nearly 40 lakh people.

“In the summit, experts will decide how to ensure proper market for products selected under the ODOP scheme. They will also formulate a strategy on how to sell the products,” said the minister. The state government also proposed to set up centres at prominent locations across UP to sell products identified under the ODOP scheme.

The UP government also directed officials posted at district headquarte­rs to visit villages for promoting the ODOP scheme.
