ALLAHABAD: People should sing the national anthem with pride and enthusiasm, President Ram Nath Kovind said on Friday.

Addressing a programme to mark the centenary celebrations of the Allahabad Medical Association (AMA) and inauguration of the new convention and rehabilitation centre building, the President said while singing national anthem at the beginning of the function, he thought he should share his ‘Mann ki baat’ with the audience.

“In the last eight months, I have travelled to 12 countries to attend functions as chief guest. As part of the tradition, India’s national anthem is played first followed by the host country’s anthem. I found people in host countries singing their country’s national anthem with so much enthusiasm. This is somewhat missing in many functions in our country,” he said.

“People want to rush out as soon as the function ends. However, at this function I found that the audience sang national anthem with so much pride. Doctors are the enlightened members of the society who can inspire others to sing the national anthem with dignity and enthusiasm,” he said.

The President also released the special cover on AMA on the occasion. UP governor Ram Naik urged the doctors to serve pilgrims with dedication during Kumbh Mela.“Every doctor should devote five days a week to his profession, one for his family and one for poor rural patients,” he said.

“I have travelled travelled the country and I can say that this convention centre is one of the best of any medical association in India. During the Kumbh Mela, pilgrims will come with only one motive, that is, to take a holy dip. They will not assess the facilities before coming here. So, when they return they should be in good health,” the governor said. He also made a mention his book ‘Charaiveti Charaiveti’ (Marching Ahead).

West Bengal governor Kesari Nath Tripathi said if any organisation completed its 100 successful and active years, it was a great achievement for all its members. UP health minister Sidharth Nath Singh said the UP government was planning to set up 1.5 lakh toilets for Kumbh Mela-2019 to make it free of open defecation.
