-

LUCKNOW: The Club of Lucknow, on Saturday, organised a meet on topic ‘Ageing Eye’ that was addressed by Dr Shobhit Chawla, medical director and chief vitreoretinal services, Prakash Netra Kendra.

In his address, Dr Chawla explained how the increased life span of humans was making age related health problems a common thing. He said that ageing eye was eyes’ response to ageing and that needed attention. He explained how lifestyle diseases, such as diabetes, cause eye-related problems.

“Not just the intensity of the disease such as diabetes, but the duration also makes an impact. Even if a person has a disease, he or she can lead a good life if provided a good medical,” he said.

He said that people who have lifestyle diseases, such as diabetes or renal diseases, should get their eye check-up done every year and those who don’t have such a disease should get a comprehensive check up done by an ophthalmologist. “Getting number for specs is not a comprehensive check-up. When the check-up is done by an eye specialist to detect if there is some serious ailment, it is termed as a comprehensive check up,” he said.

RN Bhargava, secretary general of the club, said that every month a social issue was taken up in the meeting. “Eye problems are becoming common among youths, adults and even kids. Therefore, we decided to take up this issue in this month meeting,” he said.
