VCs to discuss research promotion

ALLAHABAD: Research and innovation in higher education institutio­ns will prominentl­y figure in the discussion­s set to take place in the three-day national conference of vice chancellor­s (VCs) and directors of these institutio­ns of the country in New Delhi from July 26.

“University Grants Commission (UGC) chairman DP Singh through a missive dated June 21 has asked the VCs and directors of these institutio­ns to submit a brief note and a small PPT-presentati­on on research and innovation initiative­s in their institutio­ns focusing on major research projects undertaken, existing research eco-system, strategies for promoting research and their possible funding etc by e-mail,” said dean students’ welfare (DSW) and public relations officer (PRO) of Allahabad University (AU) Harsh Kumar.

“It will be chaired by union HRD minister Prakash Javaedkar,” he added.

The heads of state private universiti­es, Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) and Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs) would start the meet followed by the second session for heads of deemed to be universiti­es at a hotel on the first day.

“On July 27, it will be turn of heads of central universiti­es, state universiti­es besides deemed to be universiti­es, IIMs, IISERs, IITs, IIMs, IISERs, IIITs and NITs taking part in the main event (session 3 and 4) followed by heads of central varsities and centrally-funded technical institutes like IITs, IIMs, NITs and IISc attending session 5 followed by session 6 for state public universiti­es at AICTE headquarte­rs,” he added.
