KANPUR: An assistant sub-inspector was found murdered in his official quarter on the Sajeti police station premises on Tuesday night.

The body of Pachcha Gautam, 58, had multiple stab wounds. Police suspect family dispute could be behind the gruesome murder.

“We have some leads to pursue, the CCTV footage is being examined to find out who visited him,” said RK Chaturvedi, circle officer.

Gautam was posted at Sajeti in December 2017.

A police official said since most policemen had gone on VIP duty as the chief minister was in the city, Gautam’s absence went unnoticed.

Around 8 pm a police constable, who needed Gautam’s signature on some document, first called him up on his cellphone, which was switched off, said the sources.

The constable then went to his quarter and found the door opened. On looking inside he saw Gautam’s body. Police found a blood stained kitchen knife lying near the body and deep gashes on the neck, chest and abdomen region.

IG Zone Alok Singh and SSP Akhilesh Kumar rushed to the police station.

Initial investigation suggest that Gautam had married two women. While one lives in his native village Ram Kund in Sitapur and the other is settled in Kalyanpur, Kanpur with two daughters.
