VARANASI: BJP president Amit Shah on Wednesday said the country would be in election mode after the Prime Minister’s address on Independence Day.

Claiming that the BJP would win 74 seats in UP in 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Shah asked social media volunteers to ensure the party remained in power from panchayat to parliament for the next 50 years.

“Preparations for the Lok Sabha election will begin after the PM’s speech on August 15. Work hard for the party with the goal that the BJP remains in power from panchayat to parliament for the next 50 years,” he said. Addressing a meeting of social media volunteers at Deendayal Upadhyay Trade Facilitation Centre here, Shah likened BJP workers to Lord Hanuman who crossed the sea to give the message of Lord Ram to goddess Sita and set Ravan’s Lanka on fire. Repeatedly referring to volunteers as cyber warriors, Shah said, “We won general elections in 2014 because people voted for the BJP. One of the major factors was the hard work of social media volunteers.”

“I want to assure you that BJP will win 74 seats in UP in 2019. Apprise the people of party’s policies and the work done by the government in the last four years. There is no need to be discouraged by the propaganda of opposition parties,” Shah added.

He asked social media volunteers to create WhatsApp groups at each booth and connect it with the party’s Facebook page, Twitter handle, the Twitter accounts of the state and national president of the party.

Taking a swipe at opposition leaders working to form a grand alliance, Shah said the leaders did not have reach outside their respective states and would not find audience if they held rallies in Uttar Pradesh.

He asked his party workers to focus on apprising people of electrification work done by Modi government, roads constructed during last four years, rise in purchase of wheat and rice purchased and improvement in law and order across UP.

Referring to the possibility of an alliance between Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav and Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati, Shah said: “Don’t get discouraged by the alliance of ‘Bua’ and ‘Babua’ and talks of ‘mahagathbandhan’. It will not have any impact. Focus on each booth and connect with more and more people.”

Shah said those who ruled the country for 55 years failed to electrify all the households even in their strongholds Amethi and Rae Bareli. “The same people are now seeking BJP government’s account of four years. There was not even a single electric pole in 18,000 villages. The Modi government ensured electrification of all the villages of the country,” he said.
