Shah hails MSP move
VARANASI: Blaming past governments for ignoring the interest of the farmers, BJP president Amit Shah said on Wednesday the union cabinet took a historic decision by increasing the minimum support price of a number of kharif crops to provide farmers a profit of 50% over the cost of production.
In Vindhyachal, before chairing a meeting with the party workers to get feedback from ground, Shah said, “Since independence, the farmers had been continuously demanding appropriate price of their produce but past governments didn’t pay heed to t heir demand.”
“Farmers staged demonstration. They took to streets. There had been death of several farmers during these protests. Many farmers quit farming. But ever since Narendra Modi led BJP government came to power at centre, several works are being done in the interest of farmers,” Shah said while interacting with media persons.
He said several small and big pending irrigation schemes were being completed. Budget for extending relief from natural calamities had also been increased.
“Hike in minimum support price is a very great decision and farmers would celebrate
this day as Deepawali,” he said adding prosperity of the farmers will also serve the interest of those who worked in
farms.
Shah appealed to his party workers to apprise the farmers of the decision.
