AGRA: A pall of gloom descended over the suburban locality of Kheragarh in Agra on Wednesday as residents were yet to come to terms with the tragic death of a 13 year-old-boy in a mishap on Tuesday.

The Class 6 student of Pooran Chand Ramesh Chand Saraswati Vidya Mandir was killed after the damaged floor of his school bus caved in and he slipped through it and got crushed by the rear wheel of the vehicle.

The incident occurred when he was preparing to get off the bus while on way home after school got over.

The police registered a case against seven people including the school management under Section 304 of the IPC, but so far no arrests were made.

“The bus driver, Islam is in police custody and a case has been registered against seven accused and these include the school management. The accused are on the run. They will be brought to book soon,” claimed Narendra Sharma, in-charge of Kheragarh police station.

Those named in the FIR include manager, principal, treasurer and driver of the school. Islam will be presented before court on Thursday.

With questions being raised over the fitness of vehicles operating as school buses, the administration launched a campaign for checking the fitness of buses. The ill-fated bus had a registration number from Himachal Pradesh and now its permit for being plied as school bus was being verified.

“The fitness of buses, especially those deployed at schools, should be checked all throughout the year,” said Deepak Gupta, a lawyer in Agra.
