Hosp sealed after underqualified staff seen operating patient

MEERUT: The chief medical officer (CMO) of Shamli ordered to seal a city-based private hospital on Wednesday after a video went viral in which a non-medico under-qualified staff was seen operating a patient.

CMO Dr Rajkumar said the hospital had been sealed and a letter had been sent to the police to lodge an FIR against the hospital and its registration would soon be cancelled. CMO said that it was the second time when the hospital was sealed. It was also sealed a few months for functioning without any registration, he said and added that the hospital was opened only after it got registered. The recent controversy aroused against the hospital after a video went on Sunday in which the owner of the hospital was seen performing operation in absence of a qualified surgeon. A nurse was also seen in the video administering anesthesia to the patient.

Taking cognizance of the video, the CMO sent a team under the leadership of an additional CMO on Tuesday to enquire about the issue and asked them to file their reply. “We sealed the hospital when they didn’t reply to the notice”, said the CMO claiming that the accused worked as a compounder at a hospital for a few years and acquired some skills of performing surgery and other treatments. Later, he opened his own hospital in the city six years back and used to appoint surgeons and qualified doctors for few days to dodge the health department. “However, the viral video disclosed his misdeeds and action was initiated against him,” the CMO said. He added that stern action would be initiated against the culprits.
