LUCKNOW: The Central Bureau of Investigation on Saturday filed a chargesheet against five accused in the custodial death case of the father of Unnao rape survivor.

While the five who have been chargesheeted include BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar’s brother Atul Singh Sengar, CBI officials said the investigations over the role of the MLA and police officials were still going on.

Investigative Officer Anil Kumar filed the chargesheet in Roshanuddaula Court of CBI, a day before the case completes 90 days of investigations.

The BJP MLA is earlier alleged to be a part of the conspiracy in attack over the girl’s father that led to his death but his name was not included in the chargesheet.

The victim’s family had accused the two former superintendents of police of Unnao Neha Pandey and Pushpanjali Devi for helping the BJP MLA and his aides in the entire incident.

The official said those named

in the charge-sheet were Atul Singh Sengar, Vineet Mishra alias Vinay, Birendra Singh alias Bauwa, Ram Sharan Singh alias Sonu Singh and Shashi Pratap Singh alias Suman.

Bauwa’s brother Shailendra Singh alias Shaalu was, however, given clean chit in the investigation.

He said all people accused in the case are already in judicial custody.

He said the court had ordered the release of Shaalu, who was arrested after been accused in the case and lodged in jail since his arrest around six weeks ago.

The CBI official said the five accused had been chargesheeted under IPC sections related to rioting, unlawful assembly, voluntarily causing hurt, murder, criminal intimidation and insult.

The CBI had registered the case on April 12 after the notifications issued by the UP and union governments.

The rape survivor’s father was earlier attacked on April 3, 2018 when he had returned to his village Makhi in Unnao to attend the court proceedings related to a case filed for registration of FIR against the BJP MLA for raping her daughter in July 2017.

The victim’s father had sustained grievous injuries but the cops of Makhi police station had in turn sent him to jail after allegedly framing him for possessing illegal firearm.

His condition later deteriorated inside the Unnao district jail and he succumbed to his injuries while being treated at Unnao district hospital on April 9, 2018.

So far, 10 people, including the BJP MLA, his brother and two policemen of Makhi station have been arrested.

The matter first came into limelight when the victim and other women of her family tried immolating themselves near the chief minister’s residence in Lucknow on April 8, 2018, demanding action against Sengar and his aides.

While talking to media, the victim girl’s uncle alleged the CBI was biased in giving clean chit to Shaalu. He stated that he will write a letter to the CBI director in this connection.
