LUCKNOW: A fire that broke out at the ninth floor of the State Bank of India (SBI) main office building behind KD Singh ‘Babu’ stadium in Hazratganj on Saturday morning, triggered panic.

The fire caused smoke clogging on multiple floors due to which the building was vacated immediately.

Only a few people, including security men and maintenance staff were present in the building at the time of the incident.

Chief fire officer (CFO) Abhay Bhan Pandey said the fire was caused apparently due to short circuit in the electric panel in the machine room located on the ninth floor.

He said although the fire was not big, it caused smoke clogging on at least five floors that triggered panic among people present there.

He said two fire tenders and a hydraulic platform were immediately rushed to the site for rescue but the building was vacated timely.

He said nobody was injured but property worth a few lakhs might have been damaged in the incident.

He said the fire flames were doused by reaching the ninth floor using the hydraulic platform within 90 minutes.

Pandey said the State Bank of India authorities had been suggested to organise a fire safety and precautionary measures’ review to avert any further incident in future.

ALTHOUGH THE FIRE THAT WAS APPARENTLY CAUSED DUE TO SHORT CIRCUIT, WAS NOT BIG, IT CAUSED SMOKE CLOGGING ON AT LEAST FIVE FLOORS THAT TRIGGERED PANIC HERE
