MEERUT: One of the bullets that had hit gangster Prem Prakash Singh alias Munna Bajrangi during an encounter with the special task force (STF) in Delhi way back in 1998 was recovered from his body during the post-mortem examination, a senior police officer said.

Bajrangi was shot dead allegedly by gangster Sunil Rathi following an altercation inside Baghpat district jail on Monday morning. “At least nine bullet wounds were found in the body of Munna Bajrangi during the postmortem examination. Of these, three were on the skull. All the bullets were fired from a close distance which pierced through his body,” the officer, who did not wish to be named, said.“Only one bullet was found in his body which had hit him during an encounter 20 years ago. He had received eight bullet injuries in the encounter and seven of them were extracted during treatment. A bullet remained stuck inside his body,” he said. A panel of three doctors performed the postmortem examination of Munna Bajrangi at the district hospital for more than two hours. Bajrangi`s brother-in-law Hemant Singh confirmed that a bullet was stuck in Bajrangi’s body since 1998. Chief medical officer, Baghpat, Dr Sushma Chandra said the post-mortem report had been sent to the district magistrate and the superintendent of police.

District magistrate, Baghpat, Rishirendra Kumar confirmed that two magazines, 22 live cartridges and 10 empty shells were recovered from the spot where Bajrangi was shot dead.

The pistol used in committing the crime was also recovered from a manhole inside the jail, he added. Suspended jailor of Baghpat jail Uday Pratap Singh has lodged an FIR at Khekra police station in which he has accused Rathi of killing Bajrangi.

Rathi had on Monday claimed that Bajrangi had brought the pistol inside the jail and after an altercation he tried to shoot him. Rathi said he snatched the pistol from Bajrangi and shot him in self-defence. Bajrangi`s family has also given a complaint at Khekra police station and their lawyer Vikas Srivastava said police officials had assured them that their complaint would be added to the existing FIR.
