Trauma centre of SGPGI to be functional within 10 days
LUCKNOW: The trauma centre of Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) will start functioning within 10 days under in charge of AIIMS trauma centre professor Amit Gupta, who is considered a pioneer in trauma care.
Professor Gupta inspected the PGI trauma centre on Rae Bareli Road on Wednesday.
Director SGPGIMS professor Rakesh Kapoor said, “Professor Amit Gupta is in the steering committee of SGPGIMS trauma centre along with professor Amit Agarwal, professor Susheel Gupta and professor SK Agarwal.“
Professor Amit Gupta said that the trauma centre would be started in phases and it could not be made functional as a poly trauma care centre from day one.
“In AIIMS, we started the
trauma centre with dry run of one year, but here in Lucknow the trauma centre would be able to handle all sorts of complex
cases within six months,” he said.
“The trauma centre would be only for the seriously injured people. Initially doctors would focus on life saving and primary stabilisation of the seriously injured person. Depending on the severity of injuries, the trauma centre has been divided into red and yellow zones,” he said. “The AIIMS trauma centre will help the PGI trauma centre. The medico legal software of AIIMS trauma centre would be given to PGI trauma centre,” he said.
Professor Amit Gupta said that most of the patients with spine, head, brain or limb injury required prolonged rehabilitation programme, so a rehabilitation centre was also required on the trauma centre premises.
On violence against doctors, professor Gupta said, “Such incidents occur everywhere. In Delhi trauma centre too two or three incidents occur in a year. To check them, security should be increased and communication with the attendants of patients is necessary.”
Director, Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, professor Rakesh Kapoor said, “PGI will provide best trauma care in this area. We are committed to start the centre in ten days. Here 16 faculty members, 8 residents, 50 nurses, 10 technologists and 50 other staff have been appointed. The trauma centre would have life support system at every bed. It will also house 24X7 lab and pathology for emergency tests.”
