MEERUT: Gangster Sunil Rathi, accused in the murder of dreaded mafioso Munna Bajrangi inside Baghpat district jail, was shifted to the Fatehgarh Central Jail amid tight security on Saturday afternoon.

More than a dozen police personnel, led by circle officer of Baghpat Rajveer Singh, escorted the gangster during his shifting to Fatehgarh Central Jail. Sources said that all cops were wearing bullet proof jackets and were equipped with sophisticated weapons. Their travel would be tracked through GPS throughout the route.

Prashant Kumar, ADG, Meerut zone, confirmed that Rathi was shifted after receiving orders from Lucknow and tight security arrangements were made to ensure a hassle-free transfer. Bajrangi, who was brought to Baghpat from Jhansi jail on Sunday night for hearing of a case pertaining to extortion from former BSP MLA Lokesh Dixit, was shot dead on Monday morning.

Police officials now fear a gang war between Munna Bajrangi’s supporters and rivals. Hence Rathi has been shifted to Fatehgarh jail amid tight security.
