ALLAHABAD: As the UP tourism department is gearing up to set up some 50 luxurious Swiss cottages in Kumbh Mela, it has already started receiving queries and bookings for them from people living in Australia, Germany, the UK, New Zealand and Canada apart from Indian tourists.

The tourism department is all set to pamper the travellers visiting the city during Kumbh by making them stay in the Maharaja tents and Swiss cottages.

“The queries for these super luxury tents have already started coming from different parts of the India and abroad. One booking from a traveller from Mumbai is already confirmed. Queries have also come from Kolkata. Then, we are getting lot of queries from the UK and Australia through their travel agents,” shares DP Singh, senior manager, UP State Tourism Development Corporation.

Singh is overseeing all the arrangements for setting up Swiss cottages in mela area.

The officer said the rates of Maharaja tents are ₹18,000 plus taxes per day.

It includes breakfast, lunch and dinner. For Swiss cottages, the rates are ₹ 9,000 per day plus taxes. This includes three meals.

“Though Maharaja tents and Swiss cottages will be having all the facilities, the Maharaja tents décor will be a little different with more luxury items. In an effort to present different hues of India, the theme for these Maharaja tents this time comes from the most colourful state of India—Rajasthan,” Singh said.

The interiors of these cottages would be decorated with ethnic Rajasthani motifs and patterns with beautiful chandeliers and carpets completing the decor. “Antique furniture will also be placed in these cottages,” Singh added.

Singh said the visitors at the luxurious tented colony will be offered vegetarian delicacies as the department plans to set up a restaurant with popular vegetarian dishes carefully picked from different parts of the country.

“Each Swiss cottage will have a drawing room, a bed room and an attached bathroom fashioned after European style. We want our guests to experience the ultimate luxury. Right from furniture to curtains and bed sheets, each item is being selected carefully. The guests would be served a lavish lunch and dinner in addition to breakfast and beverages. Everything will display the rich culture and history of India,” Singh said.
