BSP’s pitch: Only Maya can take on Modi, Shah
LUCKNOW: The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) on Monday projected its president Mayawati as the prime ministerial candidate and said she was the only ‘dabang’ (fearless) leader who could take on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
Addressing the first workers’ conference to discuss party’s strategy for Lok Sabha election, BSP national co-ordinators Vir Singh and Jai Prakash Singh said it was high time that Mayawati became the prime minister of the country.
“After playing a pivotal role in making HD Kumaraswamy the chief minister of Karnataka, Mayawati has emerged as a powerful politician. She is the only ‘dabang’ (fearless) leader who can stop the winning chariot of Narendra Modi and Amit Shah in the electoral battle,” Jai Singh said.
“She is not only a towering Dalit leader but also has the support of all the communities. Time has come when she should be made the PM after the 2019 Lok Sabha election,” he said.
Speaking amidst slogans in support of a Samajwadi PartyBahujan Samaj Party alliance, Jai Singh reminded the party workers of Bollywood movie ‘Sholay’ in which the character of Thakur (Sanjeev Kumar) ended the terror of dacoit Gabbar Singh (Amjad Khan) with the help of Jai (Amitabh Bachchan) and Viru (Dharmendra).
“Mayawati is the ‘Thakur’ of the 2019 election who will bring an end to Modi rule with the help of her national coordinators (Jai Singh and Vir Singh),” he said.
“Rival parties are invoking Dr BR Ambedkar these days to grab Dalit votes. They should know that Mayawati is the daughter of Bhim. People associate themselves with the BSP’s ideology irrespective of their caste and religion,” he said.
Calling upon party workers to work for victory and help Mayawati take over as PM, Singh claimed Congress president Rahul Gandhi would not become PM due to the foreign origin of his mother.
“Rather than his father Rajiv Gandhi, his features match more with his mother Sonia Gandhi. Mayawati is a grass roots leader who has served as Uttar Pradesh chief minister four times,” he said.
Senior leader Vir Singh reminded the party workers of the sacrifices made by Mayawati.
“She decided to remain unmarried to devote her life for the uplift of Dalits. To give a befitting reply to the BJP in Lok Sabha election, the party has decided to strengthen the organisation. Half of the posts in the organisation have been reserved for young leaders,” he added.
He asked party workers to highlight the projects launched by Mayawati during her tenure as UP CM.
“Modi has failed to fulfil the promises made to the people during the 2014 Lok Sabha election campaign. His promises on ‘acchey din’ (good days), black money, employment and price rise have not been fulfilled,” he said. BSP state unit president RS Kushwaha called upon the party workers to gear up for the electoral battle.
“During the oath-taking ceremony of HD Kumaraswamy, the leaders of opposition parties rallied behind Mayawati on the dais. This clearly indicates that she is playing a pivotal role in anti-Modi alliance,” he added.
