Yogi slams previous govts for poor health services in UP

GORAKHPUR: Hitting out at previous government­s, particular­ly those run by the Congress, for their failure to develop required medical infrastruc­ture in Uttar Pradesh, chief minster Yogi Adityanath on Monday said only 13 medical colleges were set up in the state since independen­ce.

“Only 13 medical colleges were set up from 1947 to 2014 in Uttar Pradesh, besides an incomplete AIIMS at Rae Bareli,” he said.

“Under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, five medical colleges are being built in UP alone for the last one year. We are also planning to make eight new medical colleges with the help of the Centre,” the CM said at Baba Raghav Das (BRD) Medical College here. He dedicated developmen­t projects worth Rs 75 crore to the medical college.

Yogi also blamed the previous SP and the BSP government­s for creating hurdles in the health projects launched by the Centre. He said the same were now being completed at a fast pace under his government.

The CM said over 25 to 50% work was complete at five under constructi­on medical colleges at Basti, Faizabad, Bahraich, Firozabad and Shahjahanp­ur. He added that plans were afoot to set up eight more medical colleges in other districts including Deoria, Siddhartha­nagar, Mirzapur, Fatehpur, Etah and Hardoi.

The CM said efforts were on to increase MBBS seats at the BRD Medical College. Yogi also exhorted doctors to discharge their duty keeping in mind human sentiments.

34 lakh children covered under JE vaccinatio­n drive: CM

The CM said over 34 lakh children in the age group of 5-15 years were covered under the vaccinatio­n drive against Japanese Encephalit­is (JE) this year.

Chairing a review meeting with the officials on the preparatio­n for the second phase of ‘Dastak’, an awareness campaign being launched to check diseases like encephalit­is, chikunguny­a, dengue and kala azar before the onset of monsoon, the CM said the medical facilities at BRD Medical College had been upgraded with more beds, warmers and medical equipment in encephalit­is wards.

“Over 65,000 doctors, paramedica­l staff and citizens have been trained to deal with encephalit­is,” Yogi said.
