18 teams to participate in junior girls state football championship
LUCKNOW : As many as 18 teams would be seen in action in the Junior Girls Inter-Region State Football Championship, scheduled to be held from August 1 to 8 at Allahabad.
The participating teams include, Varanasi, Chitrakoot, Jhansi, Moradabad, Azamgarh, Faizabad, Meerut, Lucknow, Bareilly, Kanpur, Basti, Devipatan, Gorakhpur, Agra, Saharanpur, Aligarh, Vindyachal and hosts Allahabad. The event aims to select the state team for the forthcoming Junior National Championship, scheduled to be held at Goa from August 20. Girls born between January 1, 2000 to December 31, 2004, are eligible to participate.

Lucknow’s winning streak continued in the Under-16 State Sub-Junior Boys Football Championship, defeating Meerut 3-0 at Bareilly on Wednesday. Shahdab, Salman and Vikas were the scorers.

As many as three umpires, including Vikas Pandey, Rohit Yadav and Ashwani Mandhani, and five scorers i.e. Mohsin, Shubham Saxena, Umesh Kumar, Sharad Tiwari and Ashar from Lucknow have been declared successful in the umpires and scorers examinations conducted by the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association. Among them, Vikash has already been an official scorer on the panel of the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
