Industrial areas set for a makeover

LUCKNOW : The city’s industrial areas are all set for a makeover. The district magistrate has directed government departments to ensure all basic amenities like roads, electricity and water supply in these areas and resolve issues that concern industrialists.

He also proposed a rough estimate and promised to make these areas free from encroachments.

The DM’s order came in a recent meeting with industrialists, ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit scheduled here on July 29. The PM will attend ground-breaking ceremony of 10 projects that were signed during UP Investors Summit in February.

“Industrial areas have their own problems and it needs to be sorted out. We hold meetings with industrialists and their bodies to know their problems and to find out a way to deal with it,” said Kaushal Raj Sharma, district magistrate.

Lucknow has around four prime industrial units that include Talkatora industrial area, Chinhat industrial area, Sarojini Nagar industrial unit and Amausi industrial unit. Industrialists from almost all the industrial areas took part in the meeting held recently and discussed the main problems they were grappling with.

Poor connectivity, encroachments and erratic electricity supply topped the list of problems.

The DM has directed the departments concerned to resolve their issues at the earliest.

“I am told that Talkatora industrial area faces maximum power problems. It is due to dilapidated transformers and electricity poles. We have directed the electricity department to install new poles and upgrade power infrastructure in the area. A proposal of Rs 54.25 lakh has been also sent to the government for approval,” he said.

Similarly, he also directed the Public Works Department (PWD) to forward an estimate for the construction of roads, approach roads, drains and other facilities in industrial areas.

In Chinhat industrial area, he directed the departments to construct road number 2 that is in bad shape and is also causing accidents. He said the road would be constructed within 10 to 15 days.

The area would also witness anti-encroachment drive and restoration of drains and manholes in the area.

He also directed the Upsidc to ensure illumination in the areas. The Upsidc has forwarded an estimate of around Rs 4.67 crore for the same.
