Police residential quarters in Muz’nagar get a saffron touch

- VASISTHA BHARDWAJ

MUZAFFARNAGAR: After the secretariat annexe building (Shastri Bhawan) and state Haj Committee office in Lucknow and a toll plaza on Muzaffarnagar-Saharanpur highway, the residential quarters of police personnel in Muzaffarnagar Reserve Police Lines have been given a saffron coat.

While senior police officials denied any political agenda, the move evoked a sharp criticism from opposition parties.

Superintendent of police (traffic and police lines) BB Chaurasia said, “There is no political agenda behind the saffron coat given to residential quarters in the Reserved Police Lines. It is a routine process. When the buildings were painted in this colour, it appeared more beautiful than the previous combination.”

Earlier, the buildings were painted in yellow and white.

Besides residential quarters, the office of family welfare situated in Reserve Police Lines was also given a saffron coat.

District unit president of Congress Mohammad Tariq said: “The state government has failed to fulfil its poll promises. Now by painting government buildings in saffron, the BJP is trying to divert people’s attention from real issues.”

“Law and order situation is deteriorating in the state. People are not safe even in the jails. Instead of focusing on important issues, the government is busy in painting toll plaza and police residential quarters in saffron,” he added. City president of the Samajwadi Party Mohammad Wasi said, “By saffronising roadways buses and government buildings, the BJP wants to take the credit of all development works initiated by the Akhilesh Yadav government.” District president of the Congress Sewa Dal Satish Sharma said the BJP government was trying to please a section of the society by painting government buildings but this strategy would not work for the party in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
