Minority commission team meets Nida Khan

LUCKNOW: : A two-member fact finding team of Uttar Pradesh Minorities Commission met Nida Khan on Thursday and enquired about her cases.

A fatwa was issued against Nida by Barelvi clerics allegedly for criticisin­g the practice of instant triple talaq and halala.

“We met Nida and heard about the case of domestic violence and the recent fatwa. We have also asked Bareilly district administra­tion to provide her security,” commission member Rumana Siddique told reporters in Bareilly after the meeting . “We will also visit the family of her in-laws for the other part of the story before compiling our report,” she added. NIda Khan was married into the family of Ahmed Raza aka Ala Hazrat. She claims to have been given divorce through instant Triple Talaq. The commission has also sought report from the local administra­tion regarding the matters pertaining to Nida .

MUSLIM WOMEN TORCH EFFIGY OF AIMPLB

VARANASI: Members of Muslim Mahila Foundation on Thursday supported triple talaq victim Nida Khan of Bareilly and torched the effigy of the AIMPLB to protest against the assault of a Muslim woman by a Board member during a debate on a news channel.

Holding placards with messages supporting Nida Khan, the women held a meeting and condemned the attack on Muslim lawyer Farah Faiz by a member of the All-India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) Maulana Ejaz Arshad Qasmi during a debate on a news channel. They

demanded that Qasmi should be booked under the NSA. They also sent a letter to the President of India demanding a ban on AIMPLB. “There is anger over the incident. Qasmi not only assaulted the woman but also hurled abuses at social activist Ambar Zaidi. We condemn the incident,” activist Nazneen Ansari, who heads the Muslim Mahila Foundation, said.
