Governor gets briefing on municipal board’s work
LUCKNOW: Governor Ram Naik on Thursday met Uttar Pradesh Board for Development of Municipal Financial Resources chairman, Rakesh Garg and other members here at the Raj Bhawan to get a briefing on the work done by the board during 2017-18.
The board was constituted in 2011 to advise the state government and urban local bodies about the ways and means to augment the financial resources of the urban local bodies (ULBs) to prepare a data base of the properties of the (ULBs) to do tax assessment in urban local bodies and adjudicate property tax appeals.
Garg presented a booklet ‘Ek Drishti’, detailing the board’s work during the last financial year.
The board has toured West Bengal, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Telangana, Assam, Maharashtra and Delhi and also studied other states and advised the government on many issues related to revenue augmentation and management of the urban local bodies in the state.
The governor was told that the state government and the (ULBs) are taking suitable steps on the board’s recommendations.
THE BOARD HAS TOURED WEST BENGAL, GUJARAT, RAJASTHAN, TELANGANA, ASSAM, MAHARASHTRA AND DELHI. IT ALSO STUDIED OTHER STATES AND ADVISED THE GOVERNMENT ON MANY ISSUES RELATED TO REVENUE AUGMENTATION
“Now, many ULBs are collecting the mobile numbers and details of electricity connection which is helping identify the properties out of tax net as also to communicate to them about tax dues and payment status,” Garg.
He said gradually all ULBs are now progressing towards self-assessment and adopting modern techniques for tax collection.
“A few ULBs have even started using web connected POS machines for door-to-door collection of house tax, he said.
