ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz are likely to be shifted to a rest house at the Police College Sihala near Islamabad, local media reported.

The duo, convicted in the Avenfield properties case, was arrested on July 13 upon arrival from London to Lahore and subsequently taken to the central jail in Adiala, Rawalpindi, and have since been there.

Geo News channel reported that all arrangements for their shifting have been finalised. The Islamabad chief commissioner has already declared the rest house as a sub-jail .

According to reports, they will be shifted within the next 24 hours. Security at Sihala has been enhanced. The decision was made after taking into account security fears at Adiala prison, where Sharif, Mayram Nawaz and her husband Capt Muhammad Safdar are being kept.

On Wednesday, caretaker information minister of Punjab detailed facilities available to the former premier inside Adiala prison. Riaz said Nawaz is being kept in a separate room inside the prison, adding he has also been allotted space for walking, a functional washroom and a cook as well as to make food for him.

“Nawaz was provided with better facilities on July 14,” he told reporters. “The prison’s medical staff conducts Nawaz’s check-up on a regular basis. He has been provided with all facilities.”

Riaz said that Nawaz has been provided facilities of ‘better class’ according to his privilege. He said a prisoner of ‘better class’ can get a bed with mattress, shoes, table, chair, 21 inch TV, radio, toiletries, newspapers and other such things on his own expenses.
