LUCKNOW Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU) vice- chancellor RC Sobti is not entitled to draw full pay as V-C of this varsity, along with pension benefits as retired professor of Punjab University, said the ministry of human resource development in a letter dated July 18.

Sobti has been drawing full pay as BBAU V-C along with pension benefits as retired professor of Punjab University and the MHRD found this to be “against the rules and provisions of the Act and statutes of the university.” In its earlier letter (dated June 4, 2018), the ministry had asked the BBAU registrar to re-fix Sobti’s pay as V-C, from the date of his initial appointment, in accordance with the department of personnel and training (DOPT’s) clarification and make necessary recoveries.

The ministry said it has “thoroughly examined” Sobti’s representation dated June 26, 2018 and found that submissions made by him are devoid of any merit as these were against the Act and

Statutes of the university. HT has the copy of the MHRD letter addressed to the V-C.

Registrar incharge RB Ram said recovery will be made from the vice chancellor as per the rules. Since the matter is related to finance, varsity finance officer will take a final call, he said. Finance officer Rama Shankar Singh said he is waiting for the registrar’s order and will act

accordingly.

In a letter dated June 4, 2018, of which HT is in possession, Surat Singh, deputy secretary, department of higher education to the government of India asked the university to intimate the details of terminal benefits being made available to Prof Sobti, who was given extension as the selection process of the new vice-chancellor got delayed.
