GO on ban is unclear, say plastic traders
LUCKNOW: : Members of the Uttar Pradesh Plastic Trade Welfare Association staged a protest against the ban on polythene in front of Aminabad Inter College on Friday.
“The GO on plastic ban is unclear. On one hand, it states there is a ban on plastic products below 50 microns, but the next para says there would be a total ban on plastic products after October 2. This ambiguity in the language of GO is hurting traders and manufacturers. They are in a dilemma whether to go for production of over 50 micron products or stop producing plastic products altogether,” said Ravi Jain, president of the association.
Jain said selective ban on polythene and plastic would only harm traders and small manufacturers.
Around 10 lakh people are dependent on plastic trade so this matter has to be handled with care, he added.

“It’s strange that multinational and other big companies are allowed to use polythene for packaging products, but small traders are not allowed to do so. Our association only wants the government to end ambiguity in GO and give us window period of three months so that the huge stock of polythene can be recycled and reused,” said Jain.
The plastic traders have decided to meet higher officials and ministers with their demands in this regard.
