Lucknow boys in state football semi-finals

LUCKNOW : Favourites Lucknow stormed into the semi-finals of the State Under-16 Sub-Junior Boys Football Championsh­ip, notching up a thrilling solitary goal win against Allahabad at Bareilly on Friday. Anand struck the all important in the 20th minute.

CONTRASTIN­G WINS

It was a day of contrastin­g wins in the District Football League2018 at the Chowk Stadium here on Friday. MB Football Club defeated Chiranjeev Football Academy by 2-1, whereas Chowk Sporting blanked out City Football Club 2-0. Priyanshu struck both the goals for MB Football Club, whereas Arjun scored the consolatio­n goal for the Chiranjeev Football Academy. In the second match, Mustafa and Kamal shared two goals between them.

The opening day of the 4th Nawab Emaduddin Ashraf Memorial Billiards and Snooker Tournament being played at Oudh Gymkhana Club here on Friday, saw some top cueists struggling to find form and in the process letting their opponents to come out victorious.

Azhar Abrar (-50) taking advantage of inconsiste­nt play by Shobit Chandra (-75) first wiped out his handicap of 50 points with a break of 26 points n then out played Shobit with some accurate potting. By the time Shobit could clear his handicap, Abrar had already taken a commanding lead of 100 points with scores reading 105-5 in his favour. Building on the pressure Abrar potting well compiled another break of 36 points forcing Shobit to concede the match at scores 55-175 in Abrar’s favour in the 200-up points game.

Another prominent cueist Rahul Singh too had a tough day and just about managed to keep himself in contention to progress to the knock out stage. In another match which was supposed to be battle of equals as both players enjoyed the same handicap (+25) Azhar with the help of a neat break of 38 points defeated SI Farooqui by 200-90 points. The last match of the day witnessed India No 2 snooker player Malkeet Singh easily winning against Vishwakarm­a by 200 -107 and in the process hitting the best break of the day of 81 points.

SPLIT POINTS

Most of the teams shared points in the fourth round of the National Chess Championsh­ip of Delhi Public School here on Friday. Gurgaon split points with RK Puram, New Delhi in the first matc in th fourth round. Others who split point, included North Kolkata, Vasant Kunj New Delhi, Sushant Lok Gurgaon, Noida Expressway, Bangalore East, Ranchi, Kalyanpur Kanpur, Ruby Park , Faridabad Sector 19 and Chandigarh.
