ADMN ISSUES STRICT ADVISORY TO CHECK RAGGING
LUCKNOW: In no mood to spare those indulging in ragging, the district administration on Saturday issued a strict advisory to educational institutions, directing them to ensure that no senior should communicate with the juniors after 9pm in hostels, at least for initial two to three months of the new academic session. DM Kaushal Raj Sharma said that the institution management should ensure that juniors and seniors were allocated separate hostels and their accommodations were separated by a high wall. “There are often complaints of ragging in hostels, hence it is made mandatory for institutes to have separate hostels for seniors and juniors and that they should not talk after 9pm,” he said .
He also said that in case of any space issues in hostels, the senior students should be asked to stay in rented accommodations.
As per the fresh guidelines, warden or the principal should ensure ban on the entry of outsiders in institutions and also in hostels. “It has been observed that outsiders often manhandle freshers in support of seniors. This will not be tolerated,” he said.
The advisory also defines dos and don’ts for the institutions. It says that the institutions should place a complaint box on the premises and should tell the guardians of the students that their ward would be rusticated if found ragging. It further says that regular checking drives should be launched on the campus to ensure there were no firearms, alcohol and other banned material on the premises.
The DM said that institutions should display anti-ragging banners and posters and distribute pamphlets among students, making them aware of the legal actions. They should also constitute anti-ragging squads to keep a strict watch on the students’ activities.
