‘Qaiserbagh will be the most developed area in Old city’
SMART CITY MISSION Basic amenities will be upgraded and heritage structures restored, say officials
LUCKNOW: If all goes according to plan, Qaiserbagh will soon be the most developed area in the Old City.
Under the Smart City Mission, the locality’s water pipeline network, drainage system and sewerage will be overhauled to improve basic amenities. In addition, the surrounding heritage structures will also be restored.
District administration officials have marked out an area within 12km radius of the Qaiserbagh crossing as area base development (ABD).
“The ABD will witness massive development work, covering both heritage and non-heritage areas around Qaiserbagh. This will be done under the Smart City Mission,” said district magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma.
Officials said the development work would be undertaken in phases. One phase would focus on revamping the heritage structures in the area, the other on upgrading basic amenities.
They said an amount of ₹98 crore would be spent on developing the sewerage, repairing and replacing worn-out sewer lines.
Then, around ₹40 crore would be spent on developing the water supply pipeline network to ensure proper supply in the area. Another ₹26 lakh would be spent on upgrading the drainage work.
“Under the project, it will be
ensured that around 14,000 people get water supply and PNG connections,” said the district magistrate.
The project also includes giving a facelift to the Qaiserbagh crossing, at an estimated cost of ₹74 lakh. This will include development and beautification of the five approach roads too, said officials.
The district magistrate said that heritage structures, such as, Kothi Darshan Vilas, Kothi Roshan-udDaula, Kothi Gulistan-e-Eram, Begum Hazrat Mahal park and Chhatar Manzil will also be conserved under the Smart City Mission, with a total outlay of ₹62.2 crore.
“The department has signed a
memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) to restore the lost glory of heritage structures here in the state capital,” he said.
Officials said once the project was complete, Qaiserbagh would become the most developed area in Old city.
