Rainfall to improve in coming days: MeT
LUCKNOW: The rain deficit is set to go down in coming days, with most parts of the state expected to receive more than normal rainfall, according to the MeT forecast. The projection for rain in eastern and western UP has been changed to ‘wide spread’.
“The rain deficit of the state has improved slightly with good rainfall received in the past few days. We are hopeful that the situation will improve further with good rainfall expected in coming days,” said JP Gupta, director, UP MeT department.
The possibility of rain is a good sign for the state which is reeling under an average rain deficit of 43 %. The deficit is more in eastern UP than in western parts. “There is an area of low pressure above the state which will continue to draw clouds and cause rains,” said Gupta. According to experts, the area of low pressure is a result of relatively high temperatures.
Meanwhile, the spell of rainfall continued for the second day on Saturday with normal rainfall in many parts of the state. While the state capital received 0.4 mm rainfall on Saturday, the highest rainfall (48 mm) was in Ghazipur. Normal rainfall was also reported in Varanasi, Meerut and Muzaffarnagar districts.
The good rainfall provided some respite to farmers who needed it for their rabi crops. For city dwellers, the rain brought down temperatures and a welcome relief from humidity. The maximum temperature in the city was recorded at 30 degrees Celsius while the minimum was a comfortable 25 degrees. The day temperature in other parts of UP also remained under 40 degrees Celsius with maximum day temperature of 35.6 degrees recorded in Agra.
