ALLAHABAD: A criminal complaint was filed against Baba Ramdev and Rajat Sharma, chairman and editor in chief of India TV for hurting religious sentiments of Muslim community, on Tuesday.

The case is filed in the court of chief judicial magistrate, Allahabad by one Siraz Khan of Allahabad. The court will hear this case on August 6 on issue of maintainability of complaint case and whether it has jurisdiction to hear the complaint.

In the petition it has been alleged that complainant is a viewer of ‘Aap Ki Adalat’ show hosted by Rajat Sharma and in an episode aired on Sept 30, 2017 when Sharma asked that Muslims might have objection on use of cow urine in some Patanjali medicines, Ramdev said use of cow urine for medical treatment is mentioned in Quran too.

“Therefore, Muslims should not have any objections to the use of cow urine in medicine,” Ramdev had argued. After watching the episode, he read Quran and discussed this issue with some scholars but could not find any mention of cow urine use for medicinal purpose. According to the complainant, Ramdev made a false claim only to gain monetary benefits. Complainant had sent legal notices to Ramdev and Sharma but none of the two sent their reply. He tried to lodge an FIR but police refused to record the same, after which complainant decided to file a complaint.
