Tariq’s hat-trick helps LU notch up easy win in district football

LUCKNOW : A superb hat-trick by Tariq helped Lucknow University crush LDA (Kanpur Road) by 6-0 in the District Football League-2018, at the Chowk Stadium here on Wednesday. In other match of the day, City Club beat Aliganj Sporting by a solitary goal.

It was Mohit, who set the tone for LU’s fascinatin­g win, netting back-to-back goals in the 25th and 29th minute (2-0), before Ankit extending the lead to 3-0 in the 35th minute. But thereafter, Tariq stole the limelight, striking in the 40th, 50th and 55th minutes, to notch up tournament’s first hat-trick of the season.

It was a dingdong battle in the second game, but Utkarsh’s allimporta­nt in the 40th minute sealed the game for City Club.

RAILWAYS TT

South Eastern Railway (SER) and NEF Railway (NEFR) won the men and women team championsh­ips, respective­ly at the 66th All-India Railway Table Tennis Championsh­ips at Rae Bareli on Wednesday.

SER men defeated Southern Railway 3-2, whereas NEFR beat Metro 3-1 in their final league match to finish top.

SER’s Anirban Ghosh defeated team mate Anirban Nandi 4-1 to claim the men’s singles title, whereas NEF’s Sagarika defeated Anandita Chakrbarty 4-0 to finish top in the women’s singles.

JAI SHINES BUT LOSES

Jai Singh (+20) produced some very anxious moments for seasoned campaigner Ayush Mittal (+8) before bowing out in fifth and final frame 84-62, 82-51, 57-103, 51-82, 65-73 in the first round of the Nawab Emaduddin Ashraf Memorial Billiards Tournament, at the Oudh Gymkhana here on Wednesday.

In other matches of the day, Kuldeep (+16) defeated Samarth Gautam (+12) 70-46, 46-66, 70-43, 24-75, 58-24, Anuj Bhargava beat Rahul Singh 62-54, 79-69, 73-35, Rahul (+08) beat Rehan (+24) 80-38, 89-82, 19-58 and 78-72, and Quasim Zaidi (+12) beat Saurabh Jaiswal (+20) 77-35, 81-35 and 95-61.

India No 2 snooker player and winner of the billiards event, Malkeet Singh will start his campaign on Thursday as he had a walk-over against Pradeep Pandey, who failed to turn up in the first round encounter.

COLOUR BELT TEST

As many as six taekwondo exponents of the Oxford Taekwondo Academy were on Wednesday declared success in the colourbelt tests. They included Anjanay Pathak, Shivansh Mishra, Yashasvi Kesarwani, Pawni Arora, Anurag Maurya and Shree Yadav.
