100 mayors to attend smart city meet today

LUCKNOW: About 100 mayors from all over the country are in the city to attend the smart city conference scheduled from July 27 to 29, along with the groundbrea­king ceremony in Indira Gandhi Pratishtha­n, according to officials.

Prime minister Narendra Modi will address the mayors on Saturday evening from 5 pm to 6.30 pm.

Union minister of state for urban developmen­t Hardeep Singh Puri will inaugurate the smart city conference at 10.30 am. The programme will begin with the welcome address by chief secretary Anoop Chandra Pandey followed by address of urban developmen­t minister of UP Suresh Khanna who will present an outline of the work and achievemen­ts under smart city projects in Uttar Pradesh.

Next the Smart City Awards and AMRUT reforms incentives will be distribute­d . The first session will end with the address of union minister Hardeep Singh Puri.

The guests attending the conference on July 27 will stay in Hotel Hyatt, Fairfield Marriot, Renaissanc­e, Vedanta, Savy Grand, Hilton, Novotel, Grand JBR, Comfort Inn, Clarks Avadh, Gemini Continenta­l, Casaya Inn and Lineage.

The Lucknow Municipal Corporatio­n has booked 60 rooms in Hotel Vedant, 50 rooms in Hyatt, 120 rooms in Fairfield Marriot, 30 rooms in Savvy Grand, 45 rooms in Grand JBR, 30 rooms in Comfort Inn, 60 rooms in Renaissanc­e, 30 rooms in Hotel Ranbirs, 80 rooms in Hilton, 30 rooms in Novotel, 53 rooms in Clarks Avadh, 40 rooms in Gemini, 25 rooms in Casaya Inn and 50 rooms in Lineage for the guests.

The cash strapped Lucknow Municipal Corporatio­n has been given Rs 50 lakh advance by the union government to ensure smooth stay of the guests in these luxury hotels.

The work of Lucknow Metro near airport would remain suspended for two days during the groundbrea­king ceremony on July 28 -29.

The Lucknow Metro Rail Corporatio­n has agreed to suspend the work to facilitate commuting for more than 1,700 guests expected to arrive during the twoday ceremony.
