VARANASI: BJP legislator from Bairia constituency in Ballia Surendra Singh said Hindus couples should have at least five children to save Hindutva or else a situation similar to that of J&K would prevail in the country after 50 years.

“Children are the ‘prasad’ (gift) of God. I appeal to every Hindu couple to have at least five children to preserve Hindutva. India can become strong, when Hindus are strong. When Hindu is weak, India is weak,” Singh said.

“Population of Hindus should increase. Every seer is of the opinion that each Hindu couple should have at least five children. If there is no balance in population, Hindus will be in a minority not because of terrorists but due to themselves,” he added. He said if balance in population was not maintained, a situation similar to that of Jammu & Kashmir would arise in other parts of the country.

When asked how one could look after five children with limited resources, Singh said: “Bureaucrats, doctors, engineers and gazetted officers, who earn well, should pay attention to my appeal. They can easily provide best schooling and care to their children.”

“If a rickshaw-puller or a daily wager can bring up five children, why can’t prosperous and well-off families do so?” he asked.

Blaming previous governments for ignoring the development of Ballia, he demanded that it should be declared as a district of revolutionaries and given special district status for its allround development.

Singh’s controversial statements have often put the BJP government in an embarrassing situation.

Earlier this month, Singh had said that rape cases could not be curbed even if Lord Ram descended on earth.

After the Kairana Lok Sabha and Noorpur assembly by-elections earlier this year, he had blamed the ministers in the Yogi Adityanath government for the party’s humiliating defeat.

“The BJP government has not been able to give transparent governance,” he had said.

Singh had also said the 2019 Lok Sabha elections would be a battle between ‘Islam and Bhagwan’.
