Teachers in state-run medical colleges to get lessons in Yoga

LUCKNOW: Teachers in state-run medical colleges will learn the benefits of Yoga to treat the patients coming to them. In an endeavour to make yoga available for patients using modern medicine, the department of AYUSh has chalked out a plan wherein teachers will learn yoga and its benefits in various ailments. Once they learn, they will teach the patients who are interested in the practice.

“Those willing to opt for yoga will get an opportunit­y to learn it from doctors. For advanced training, the patients can contact yoga trainers,” said Mukesh Meshram, secretary AYUSH department adding: “The idea is to give maximum patients an opportunit­y to learn yoga.” The department is also in touch with the Vivekanand­a Yoga Anusandhan­a Samsthana in Bengaluru from where experts will come to Uttar Pradesh

and train doctors. “The doctors will get proper informatio­n and training so that they can treat the patients well,” said Meshram.

The training model has been designed to help doctors learn easily and also identify with the ailments in which yoga can help. The target, to begin with, will comprise lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, hypertensi­on that can be treated with yoga.
