Judicial probe begins, NHRC seeks report

JAIPUR: The judicial probe into the alleged custodial death of Rakbar Khan, 31, who was lynched by a mob of cow vigilantes in Alwar district of Rajasthan last week, began on Thursday, police said.

Additional chief judicial magistrate (Rajgarh), Amar Singh Champawat recorded the statements of suspended assistant sub-inspector Mohan Singh, and three constables — Surendra Singh, Harendra Singh and Vijay Singh — at the Ramgarh court, said Alwar SP, Rajendra Singh.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) took cognisance of the incident and has issued a notice to the Rajasthan government and sought a report from the state within 15 days. The commission, in a release, said it has observed that the contents of news reports about the incident which, if true, raise a serious issue of human rights violation.

WAKF BOARD’S AID

Haryana Wakf Board Chairman, Rahis Khan, on Thursday Rakbar’s family and promised to extend support to them.

“We will support the family members and will provide free education to the children,” Khan said and handed over a cheque of ₹5 lakh to the deceased’s family. Punhana sub divisional magistrate SK Chahal also presented a cheque of ₹5 lakh to Rakbar’s kin.

However, Rakbar’s family called the compensati­on insufficie­nt.
