22 teams to play in district hockey league

LUCKNOW As many as 22 teams, including eight in the women’s section would be seen in action in the Vijendra Singh Memorial District Senior Hockey League, starting August 10, at the Padamshree Mohd Shahid Stadium here in Gomti Nagar.

Final of the 18-day event is slated for August 27. Man-of-thematch in every match, and five special awards like best goalkeeper, best full back, best forward, best half back and best scorer would be awarded.

The participat­ing teams in the men’s section include Sports Authority of India, Sports Hostel, Shastra Seema Bal, Sports College A, Sports College B, KD Singh Babu Club, Northern Railway, Islamia College, KD Singh Babu Stadium Trainees, National College, North Eastern Railway, Chowk Stadium Trainees, UP Power Sector and Gomti Nagar Stadium Trainees.

The participat­ing teams in the women’s section are: Sports Authority of India, Sports Hostel, Shastra Seema Bal, Shanti Foundation, Karamat Girls College, Balika Vidyalaya Cantt, Khun Khun Ji Girls College and Nari Siksha Niketan.

PRIYANSHU EXCELS

A superb hat-trick by Priyanshu helped MB Football Club notch up a facile 4-0 win against Mamta Sporting in the District Football League-2018, at the Chowk Stadium here on Thursday. Priyanshu scored in the third, 22nd and 35th minute to register tournament’s second hat-trick this season. Shubham Doliya scored the fourth goals in the 38th minute. The second match of the day between RBI and Sports College ‘A’ ended in a goalless draw.

SCHOOL FOOTBALL

St Clare’s Convent scored a thrilling 4-2 win against Vidyatree Modern World College in a league match of the Inter School Football Tournament, at the Chowk Stadium here on Thursday. The match witnessed a hattrick from Kurkan, who struck in the 40th, 45th and 50th minutes after Kushagra opening the account in the 14th minute. For the losers, Nomaan and Maaz scored a goal each. In other match of the day, DPS Jankipuram and DPS Indira Nagar shared points after their match ended in a goalless draw.

ROHIT IN QUARTERS

Rohit Gangwar created the biggest upset by defeating Anuj Bhargava in four frames to enter the snooker quarterfin­als at the Nawab Emaduddin Ashraf Memorial Tournament here. After losing the first frame at 49-58, Rohit bounce back superbly and won the remaining three by 76-68, 75-43 and 67-35. The reigning India No 2 Malkeet Singh too was fighting for his survival against unfancied Sabibuddin on other table. fter losing the first frame 43-68, Malkeet won the next two frames by 72-49, 73-33. Sabibuddin won the fourth frame by a huge margin of 61-20 points, but in decider, Malkeet proved that patience is a big virtue, and won the frame and match at 74-35 points ensuring his entry to last eight.
