Guru Purnima: Devotees brave rain to seek Yogi’s blessings

GORAKHPUR On the occasion of Guru Purnima on Friday, a large number of devotees braved heavy rain to pay respect to chief minister Yogi Adityanath at Gorakhnath temple. Adityanth is also the head priest of the Nath sect temple.

Several VIPs, including MLAs and MPs as well as locals took turns to apply ‘tilak’ on his forehead and seek his blessings. Adityanath also worshipped Mahant Avaidynath, his mentor and former head priest of the temple.

The programme began at 10 am with the traditiona­l puja led by Kamalnath, the pradhan pujari of the temple.

Amid the chant of mantras, Yogi was made to sit on an ‘aasan’ and ‘aarti’ was performed by priests. After a while, doors were opened for devotees waiting in long queues to seek his blessings on the occasion. The devotees also enjoyed devotional music by singer Rakesh Srivastav.

about the importance of the festival the chief minister said, “Guru purnima is observed to pay respects to gurus (teachers ). It is important because on this day Maharishi Vyas and Adi Guru gave a new direction to religious literature including Vedas and purana. To strengthen Indian culture we all should pay respect to our gurus.”
