The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) conducted the exam for the first time to recruit teachers for students of class 6 to 10 at Government Intermediate Colleges of the state.

LUCKNOW/ALLAHABAD :The UP Special Task Force (STF) on Sunday busted a solvers’ gang and arrested 51 people, including its alleged kingpin, from four districts before the assistant teachers’ (trained graduate grade) recruitment exam-2018, commonly known as the LT grade exam, which was held later in the day.

Director general of police (DGP) OP Singh said the STF teams arrested 34 people from Lucknow, 12 from Allahabad, four from Kanpur and one from Agra in a series of raids conducted in all four districts.

The STF also recovered several mobile phones, PAN cards, admit cards, Aadhaar cards and cash from possession of the arrested persons. Inspector general (IG) of police, STF, Amitabh Yash said the arrests were made when the gang members were planning to provide solvers to candidates in the assistant teachers’ (trained graduate grade) recruitment exam-2018.

Many solvers were called from other states like Bihar and promised payment of ₹ 50,000 each for appearing in the examination in place of other candidates, he added. Senior superintendent of police (SSP), STF, Abhishek Singh said the kingpin of the racket was a sacked teacher Om Sahai of Kaushambi, who along with his two aides Vinit Kumar and Jitendra Kumar, were arrested from Allahabad. The SSP said Sahai and his wife Neelam Sahai had managed to get teachers’ jobs, using forged certificates and were sacked when their fraud was exposed. As per the deal, aspirants were to pay Rs 14 lakh to Om Sahai for clearing the examination.

The aspirants had paid Rs 2 lakh as advance to Sahai, Singh further said. Following confession of Sahai and his aides, the team arrested solvers in Allahabad, Lucknow, Agra and Kanpur. Officials of the STF said the gang used to scan the photographs of the aspirants as well as the solvers and morph them. The morphed photograph was fixed on admit cards so that solvers could not be recognized during the examination. Since the photograph was morphed, the chances of being caught were less, STF officials claimed.
