‘FOOD PROCESSING UNIT TO COME UP IN LUCKNOW SOON’

The ITC group is coming up with a food processing unit in Lucknow and a logistic hub in Ghaziabad. The company plans to invest ₹1000 crore in Uttar Pradesh in near future.

“The ITC has a deep and long relationsh­ip of over several decades with Uttar Pradesh. We have a factory in Saharanpur. The company has 19 packaging units in the state in associatio­n with local entreprene­urs,” said Sanjiv Puri, chairman, ITC. “The company has presence in agricultur­e, manufactur­ing and service sector in the state,” added Puri adding, in agri business the ITC had presence in 50 districts across the state. “The company has empowered 12 lakh farmers. Under the PM’s initiative to double farmer’s income, we have launched a program ‘Barah Mahena Haryali’ in Uttar Pradesh and contacted two lakh farmers,” said Puri. The project has helped double the income of 30,000 farmers and the remaining have reported increase in income from 30 percent to 70 percent, asserted Puri.

The ITC has also entered into plantation of guava and jamun in Uttar Pradesh. The company has also pledged to prepare packaged juice from pulp sourced from Indian farmers and not from fruit concentrat­e sourced from foreign countries. The ITC has also entered into a contract with Saharanpur administra­tion for solid waste management of entire city.
