Death toll 70 in UP, more rain in store
CM Yogi Adityanath has directed officials to give financial and medical assistance to people severely affected by rain.
LUCKNOW : The death toll in the rain-related incidents in the last four days has gone up to 70 in the state.
“As many as 70 persons have lost their lives in rain-related incidents across the state. The number of injured persons stands at 77, while 408 houses were damaged,” an official posted at the relief commissioner’s office said here.
The most deaths, 11, were recorded in the western UP district of Saharanpur. The state government has released ₹ 156.37 lakh to be distributed to the affected families across the state.
Chief minister Yogi Adityanath has directed senior officials of all districts to alert people and asked them to undertake extensive tours in the affected areas and identify dilapidated buildings and get them vacated, a government spokesperson said here.

Meanwhile, Met officials on Sunday said Uttar Pradesh will continue to receive normal rainfall in the coming days due to existing low pressure area in the eastern region.
“The cloud cover over Uttar Pradesh will remain for next two days which will ensure normal rainfall,” said UP MET department director JP Gupta.
“The cloud movement will remain constant with the presence of a low pressure zone in the eastern part of the state,” he added.
The meteorological department said heavy and extremely heavy rain was likely in Terai area and Central region of the state as well as in the Ganga and Rapti basin area.

According to Met data the rain deficit has come down to -1% from over -30%in beginning of this month.
The situation has also improved in east UP with the rain deficit coming down to -27% from -45%.

The Met department has issued a warning to the respective district administrations to make arrangements.
Similarly, the authorities in Ghaziabad and Noida in the National Capital Region (NCR) alerted the municipal, police and rescue departments to prevent damage caused by flooding of roads and buildings.
Teams of NDRF were also kept on standby to respond to emergency situations.
In non-metro districts, like Pilibhit and Barabanki, the district administration has advised people to avoid venturing into dilapidated buildings.
People settled close to river beds have also been cautioned due to rise in water levels in rivers.
In Shahajahanpur and Badaun districts, the administration has shifted people from the low-lying areas near the Ganga.
