Global tigers’ day in Dudhwa reserve

LAKHIMPUR KHERI:: Dudhwa Tiger Reserve celebrated the Global Tigers’ Day on Sunday. On the occasion, Dudhwa authoritie­s, right from field director and deputy director to forest guard level officials, set out on a long route patrolling in entire tiger reserve Interestin­gly, the patrolling inside the tough terrain of the reserve was done on foot.

“Thirty teams were formed to cover over 500 kilometer long area of the reserve and each team covered about 17 km distance on foot marking their live location on m-stripe patrolling software,” said Ramesh Pandey, field director. The exercise was to boost tiger protection and to safeguard the reserved area.

North Kheri forest division officials, along with wildlife lovers, volunteers and officials of WWF and WTI also took out long route patrolling in the buffer zone. According to officials, Dudhwa tiger reserve enjoys a healthy population of tigers.

Frequent tiger sighting by tourists was reported in the recently concluded season.

Meanwhile, experts from Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Dehradun, launched e-Bird project in Dudhwa on Sunday. “Officials of WII imparted training to Dudhwa staff on how to carry out patrolling and surveillan­ce through drone cameras,” said Mahavir Kaujlagi, deputy director. “Monitoring through drone cameras in DTR would help in habitat management,” said Kaujlagi.
